ConTrac Equipment Ltd. has announced it has acquired the Camrose, Alberta-based Prairie Water & Equipment Sales Inc.

Prairie Water will operate as a new division of ConTrac Equipment, providing land and environmental remediation and reclamation equipment rentals. The acquisition was finalized in mid-April and Prairie Water founder Randy Sroka will stay on with the company to assist with the transition over the next six months.

Although operating as a separate division, Prairie Water’s fleet complements ConTrac’s pre-existing heavy equipment rental business as well as its new heavy truck and trailer sales division that launched in March 2022.

“All of our customer base uses this type of equipment,” said Michael Karczmarczyk President of ConTrac Equipment.

“This acquisition will allow us to focus more on providing a complete service to our customer group.”

400 additional machines

The acquisition includes about 400 machines that will be added to ConTrac’s existing fleet of more than 250 machines comprised of excavators, dozers, articulated trucks, graders and wheel loaders.

The Prairie Water fleet includes machines used for soil preparation, seeding and erosion prevention, as well as tractors, skid steers, side-by-side UTVs, heavy disks, finishing disks and fencing equipment.

“ConTrac would like to thank Randy Sroka for building such an exceptional business, and we hope to carry on their values,” Karczmarczyk said. “We look forward to building long lasting relationships with pre-existing Prairie Water customers and new clients alike.”

More acquisition news:

Based in Spruce Grove, Alberta, ConTrac Equipment was founded in 1999. Today, the company supplies machines to the pipeline, homebuilding, land development, roadbuilding and utilities sectors across Western Canada.

“We’re in pretty much every industry,” Karczmarczyk said.

Alongside rental, the company also sells used machines, which are primarily sourced through its rental fleet.

“Our whole business model is that 95 per cent of our fleet is on warranty. When it gets to the end of that, we sell them as mid-life premium used equipment,” Karczmarczyk said.
