This year’s tournament took place in August at Chateau Elan. The tournament began as a company family picnic and golf outing at inception. As the company grew, management realized the opportunity to use the event as a fundraising tournament to help others. So, from there the tournament transformed into a fundraising event that still preserved the camaraderie aspect of employees and vendors coming together to have fun.
“The Jim Ellis Charity Golf Tournament would not be possible without so many Jim Ellis employees that participate by playing in the tournament, making calls for donations, working the tournament and the list goes on,” said Jim Ellis Automotive Group Vice President Stacey Ellis Hodges. “It is heartwarming to see everyone come together to raise money for such important causes that touch the lives of so many that work at Jim Ellis. I am proud of the funds generated this year and the worthwhile charities they will help support.”
Each of the 2021 recipients of golf funds holds special meaning to at least one Jim Ellis employee. Following the tournament, Jim Ellis employees have the opportunity to nominate charities to be considered to receive funds. From there, a committee goes through the nominations, vets the submissions and looks at the need for each. The committee then reviews eligible charities and determines which ones to support and how much to give to each one.
“Each year our committee sifts through the nominated charities,” said Hodges. “It is heart wrenching to see how much need is out there and the span of different ways that women and children in our community need support. I am so thankful for all the charities that are filling these needs in our local communities and for the opportunity I have to be part of something that helps support them.”
In selecting charities, the mission/focus is that the charity in some way helps children and women in need. Charities range from fulfilling needs for children in dire medical need or in need of emergency care to women and/or children that have nowhere safe to call home. Funds donated have been used for everything from helping to provide hearing for children in need to providing assistance in rescuing abandoned babies and children. The needs are many in the communities around the Jim Ellis Automotive dealerships and the money raised through the charity golf tournament is able to help each one of them further their mission/reach.
